News ABERDEEN FIRM SHOWCASES OFFSHORE SAFETY EQUIPMENT
Date: November 2006 An Aberdeen-based firm has showcased new equipment which maximises safety while lifting heavy loads offshore. Specialist Maintenance Services Ltd (SMS) presented its crane simulator at the Offshore Contractors Association (OCA) technology and innovation seminar in November 2006. The KraneSim 6000 offshore crane simulator, provides an alternative to manual training for operatives due to work cranes offshore. The traditional method sees regular cranes manipulated to give an impression of height and depth to reflect the situation an operator would face offshore. The simulator operating equipment can be adapted to reflect different crane types and a number of different scenarios can be experienced by trainees. Follow-up services are provided by SMS alongside its partners, A1 Safety Training Consultants. The simulator has been so well received that planned developments include an apprentice training scheme, dual training and crane appreciation courses.
